Hello Mr. President,
Congratulations on all your accomplishments and thanks for your attempts to assist the struggling middle classed Americans. I write you today to express an opinion and hope that at least you can understand my irritation with the American way as it stands today. I have worked since I was 16 and never received any government or state assistance other than financial aid for school. You see, my mother taught me to work hard for what you want and that’s what I have always tried to do. I have made some mistakes along the way but I own those and see them as God strengthening me for challenges to come.
In April 2013, I was laid off by Staples after 7+ years. No problem, I thought as with 36 years of experience and a bachelors degree, I would be back to work at in no time. I didn’t realize that at 52, I was no longer viable in today’s workforce (or that’s was they say). No problem, I thought again as I enrolled in Lasell College to get my Masters in Management, Eldercare administration (I graduate in summer 2014) and started my own business called MomsHouse which empowers elders to age actively. While I still look for work, attend school, work at my small business and patiently wait for my 501C3 approval (Yes, I claim the victory), I find my unemployment insurance extension no longer valid.
Some say, unemployment insurance enables the lazy while others claim it drains the national budget. What I wonder is who decided that my 36 years of loyal , honest work was worth only 10 months of partial compensation. I can appreciate the need to keep programs in line, however to do so by depriving those who work or have worked all their lives to support the America we love is just “Dirty”.
Now, I don’t blame you and I believe God has a plan for us all but as I am an American, I have the right to an opinion and this is it. Please do something about unemployment and while you’re at it don’t forget the seniors.
